Your top 3 priorities

  1. Complete every field of your Google Business Profile: main category, hours (holidays too), phone, website, menu or services and attributes.
  2. Reply to every review within a few days, using the customer’s name and a specific detail.
  3. Invite every customer the same way, after the visit. Never pick only the customers you think are happy.

Reviews to aim for per month

18 to catch up with your competitors in about 6 months (gap ÷ 6 + what you already get). Competitors keep growing too: check again each month.

ℹ️ Scoring: each answer has a weight (total 100); rating, volume vs competitors and recency are scored from your numbers. Only methods allowed by Google’s review policy are suggested.

What the score measures

The score looks at four things: your profile (complete, photos, up to date), your reviews (count, rating and how recent they are), your replies, and the way you ask for reviews. Each answer has a weight; the total is out of 100.

The plan only uses compliant methods: invite every customer, make it easy with a QR code or link, reply to every review, and report fake reviews with Google’s own tools. Rewarding reviews or asking only happy customers (review gating) breaks Google’s policy and lowers your score here.

The monthly target compares your review count with the leading competitors on Google Maps and spreads the gap over six months, plus the reviews you keep getting today.

How to use the check

  1. Open your Google Business Profile and the top 3 competitors on Google Maps.
  2. Enter your rating and review count, and your competitors’ average review count.
  3. Answer the 12 questions honestly (yes, partly or no).
  4. Read your score and your 3 priorities.
  5. Unlock the full action plan with a 30-day checklist you can print for your team.

A poster is good. A QR game is better: customers play, win a reward for their next visit, and are invited to leave an honest review.

Frequently asked questions

Can I give a gift for a Google review?

No. Google’s policy forbids offering incentives for reviews. You can reward visits or purchases for every customer, and separately invite everyone to leave an honest review.

Can I ask only my happy customers?

No. Selectively asking satisfied customers (review gating) is not allowed. Invite all customers the same way.

How many reviews do I need?

There is no fixed number. Compare with the businesses that rank around you on Google Maps and aim for a steady flow of recent reviews rather than a one-off spike.

What should I do about fake reviews?

Reply calmly and factually, then report the review through your Google Business Profile. Never post fake reviews yourself.
